Beeleigh Lock |
||
| The Rivers Chelmer and Blackwater meet just below Beeleigh Lock. There is a long weir on the right hand side below which is the tidal part of the river Blackwater. At times of high river flow and high tides the tide can over top the weir. There is a flood gate to prevent salt water flowing into the pound to Heybridge. The old Langford Cut which, leaves the navigation below the flood gate, ran into the village of Langford about a half mile north of the navigation. | ||
![]() The Beeleigh Flood Gate |
Above the bridge there are the remains of a second set of gates. Presumably these were to allow navigation to continue even with the River Blackwater was in flood. | |
