Springfield Lock and Chelmsford Basin

Springfield Lock was restored by the Chelmsford Branch of the Inland Waterways Association in 1992/93. The cut runs about half a mile to the canal terminus at the public wharf off Wharf Road.
One interesting feature is the feeder to the basin. This runs alongside the Multistory carpark and then under the road into the canal. Just before the feeder dives under the road is a regulating valve which was installed to prevent the canal draining back into the rivers if their levels dropped suddenly.
