River Chelmer in Chelmsford

The River Chelmer enters Chelmsford from the north and runs through Springfield Hall Park, passed the Anglo Ruskin University buildings, under Springfield Road to join the River Can just south of the Meadows Shopping Centre. The river from the town boundary to Victoria Road is the Western boundary of the Chelmer Valley Riverside Local Nature Reserve.

The section from the service Road near Tesco's under Springfield Road and passed the Meadows Shopping area is bordered by unsightly and dangerous high concrete walls installed in the 1960's as part of the flood defence scheme.
