Heybridge Basin and Sea Lock

 
  Access to the small village that has grown up around the basin is from the B1026. There is a good car park in the village for visitors and several pubs and a restaurant. The sea Lock can only be accessed around high tide but there are double gates on the lock designed to allow operation if the water in the river is above or below the level in the navigation. For those coming to Chelmsford by sea the entrance to the canal is at Lat: 51:43:50N Lon: 0:42:35E
The sea lock is available for use on high waters occurring between 0600 & 2000 hours 1st May to 30th September and 0700 & 1700 hours 1st October to the 30th April Locking's outside these hours must be booked in advance 24 hours notice required. The sea lock operates from one hour before high water until 1/2 an hour after high water It is advisable to arrive off the lock before high water.
